12-Year-old Girl in Seminole, FL Hit and Dragged by SUV

A traffic accident left a 12-year-old girl in critical condition in Seminole, Florida last week, according to an article in The Tampa Tribune. The accident occurred at 4:28 p.m. on January 16 when the girl was struck by an SUV in a crosswalk leading away from a school. The girl was crossing 131 st Street, just south of 84 th Terrace, and the 2003 Honda SUV that hit her was traveling southbound. After the SUV struck the 12-year-old, it traveled onto the road's right should with the girl pinned underneath the vehicle. The 37-year-old driver of the SUV had a 59-year-old passenger at the time of the accident. Neither the driver nor the passenger were injured.

CBS 10 News provided additional facts about the accident. It reported that the girl is a sixth-grader who was walking home from Seminole Middle School at the time that she was hit, and she was pinned underneath the SUV because her backpack became caught under the vehicle. She had to be transported to a local hospital via helicopter. According to CBS 10 News, the driver is not facing criminal charges, but she can potentially be ticketed for failing to yield to a pedestrian. On the day after her accident, the young victim's condition was updated to the status of "fair condition," as opposed to "critical condition."
