Hit and Run Accident Leads to Death of Bicyclist in Tampa

On Thursday, May 24 a bicyclist died from injuries sustained when hit by a pickup truck in Tampa. The accident was reported early Thursday morning, and the victim passed away later that evening, Tampa police said. The victim, a 44-year-old man, was riding his bicycle south on Tampania Street and didn't yield to a stop sign at the intersection of Lemon Street. While traveling through the intersection the victim was struck by a pickup truck, which did not stop. The impact of the collision threw the man off his bicycle and he suffered a serious head injury.

Witnesses describe the vehicle involved in the incident as a full-sized pickup, possibly a Dodge, that was a dark garnet or maroon color. The driver was described as thin, balding man in his 40s, and his vehicle likely sustained damage to the hood and front-end. Tampa police are asking anyone with information to call (813) 231-6130, and Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for any information.
