High-Speed Crash Takes Four Lives

In Plant City, a high-speed crash in late March took the lives of four people.

The Florida Highway Patrol reported that 31-year-old, R.S., of Plant City had been driving a 2006 BMW at a high rate of speed at 12:13 a.m. on March 28 on State Road 60, just moments before he caused a fatal collision that took the lives of four people.

According to the highway patrol, R.S. lost control of his vehicle, which sent the BMW careening across the center grass median east of Clarence Gordon Jr. Road. The BMW crashed into a speed limit sign, then it shot into the westbound lanes where it crashed head-on into a 1999 Cadillac, which was driven by 26-year-old J.V., of Valrico.

The driver of the BMW and the Cadillac were both killed, as were two passengers in the Cadillac. A 19-year-old female of Valrico, and J.K., of Sun City Center.

The highway patrol reported that none of those killed in the crash had been wearing seatbelts. Furthermore, troopers said that alcohol was not a factor in the crash.

Court records show that R.S. had been arrested before on several occasions for charges including aggravated battery, driving with a suspended license, drug possession and violating his probation.

Speeding, a Major Contributor to Car Accidents

Speeding is responsible for a large percentage of car accidents and traffic fatalities according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Unfortunately, many speeders are unconcerned about the welfare of other drivers on the road and are willing to assume the risk of a crash. In effect, speeding and overly-aggressive driving can be translated to a wanton disregard for the safety of others.
